Elizabethan Sonnet - Rylie Sandorf

Stephen Spencer

Elizabethan Sonnet
Rylie Sandorf

Walking slowly down the lane,
I met a man who asked my name,
In response I answered “Jayne.”
And said he, “have you fame?”
Caught off guard I answered “No,
I prefer the smaller town.
To a life of glitz I will not go,
Fame and fortune drag you down.
What I hold dear I will not sell
For a life of lust and hurt.
On this matter I won’t dwell.”
Was my reply short and curt.
“You are wise beyond your years,
This life has only brought me tears.”
