Ode to Summer - Rachel Wainwright

Brooke Rowley

Ode to Summer
Rachel Wainwright

You welcomed me in like a friend
I had the whole summer;
You couldn’t end.
You smiled and lured in every way
The days were endless,
Weeks dripped and swayed
Time seemed to stop,
But then sped up.
My whole world crashed,
You set me up.
Summer, you lied
You cheated
You cut.
Your smiling mouth opened
And then snapped shut.
You shredded my mind
You ripped out my blood
You gave me the sun,
Then drenched me in flood.
You’re not the same
As you were then.
I hate you summer,
Please come again.
